MARGE'S BAR BAND was known for many years as Tom Saunders' Detroit Jazz All Stars. Saunders was a horn player who, with his New Orleans-inspired style as well as his old-school entertainer persona, attained international renown. (His Wikipedia entry, in fact, is only available in German) With Jim Wyse assuming leadership after Saunders' passing, the group became informally referred to as "Marge's Bar band", and the name stuck! Now in its 45th season, the band continues to deliver the finest vintage jazz in the Eastside. The regular lineup today consists of Terry Kimura (trombone), Davy Lazar (trumpet), John Hammer (piano), Bill Bolle (bass), and - the longest serving member in his 36th year with the band - Bob Pinterich (drums). The band augments itself each show with a rotating cast of guest musicians. Some the guests who offered their talents over the past year include:
Dave Bennett (clarinet virtuoso)
George "Saxman" Benson (saxophone)
Carl Cafagna (reeds/vocals)
John Dana (bass)
James Dapogny (piano)
Ron English (guitar)
"Ragtime Rick" Grafing (piano/vocals)
Ray Heitger (clarinet)
Cary Kocher (vibraphone/vocals)
Ron Kischuk (trombone)
Paul Klinger (cornet/saxophone)
James O'Donnell (trumpet/vocals)
Chuck Shermatero (piano)
Vincent York (saxophone)
